 Condition

 Condition:

 GOOD

In overall good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature show normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, nicks, and dings due to age and use. As we define 'good condition' relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see 'character marks' consistent with that age and could include nicks or dings on a piece of furniture, normal separation at joints in wood due to expansion and contraction over time, minor damage to veneer has been stabilized, most locks functioning, most drawers and doors open or slide easily, some original trim may be missing, and there may be one or more splits in the wood due to age and use. If there has been a break in the marble, it has been repaired and the repair may be visible. There may be minor restoration that is visible. Chairs considered 'good condition' may have professional structural repairs but are considered to be structurally sound. These types of repairs may be visible upon close inspection. Upholstered items may show wear consistent with age and use and may need to be reupholstered. EuroLux Antiques makes no representation regarding the comfort of chairs or useability for the customer's particular application.

 Item Specifics:

There has been professional restoration to wood separation on the top surface that is visible. There is wood separation on the interior floor of the bottom cabinet. The lower shelf of the bottom cabinet sags slightly from age and use. There is minor damage to the trim on the top back left of the upper cabinet that is visible in the photos, which could be repaired prior to shipping, if desired.

RENAISSANCE REVIVAL: HENRY II AND HUNTING STYLES

As the middle class rose in status and wealth with the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, more people were able to afford furniture. This flattening of society in combination with technological advancements created a surge of furniture production. Improved transportation meant a greater variety of wood was available at lower costs. For the first time, furniture became accessible and affordable to the common man. From the 1830s to the end of the 19th century, furniture makers reached back to earlier historical styles, and reinterpreted them with a great deal of creativity and experimentation. Although machines were used to increase speed and productivity, most of the carvings were still done by hand. Consumers were hungry for large, ornate and heavily carved furniture that would impress their friends and family and show off their newly found wealth.

The Renaissance Revival style is marked by massive proportions and heavy, ornate carvings. Most furniture was produced in dark oak and walnut. There are actually several sub-styles that fall under the broader Renaissance Revival style and include the Henry II (Henri II) style, Hunting style, Mechelen style, and Louis XIII style.

In France, the Renaissance style is often referred to as Henry II (Henri II) style, based on the reign of Henry II (1547 - 1559), although it is surprising that the style was not named for his father, Francis I. Considered to be the great French Renaissance monarch, Francis I (1515 - 1547), a contemporary of Henry VIII in England, was a great supporter of the Arts and the Humanities. Enamored with Italian Renaissance art and architecture, he convinced Leonardo da Vinci and other great Italian artists to move to France and work at his court, decorating his many palaces and chateaux (palaces out in the country rather than in Paris) in the lush Loire Valley. He actively collected artistic works by Raphael, Michelangelo, and Titian, which were the beginning of the magnificent art collection of the French kings on display today in the Louvre in Paris. Decorative hallmarks of the Henry II style include arches, pediments, columns, finials, carved flowers, fruit, scrolls and often references to Greek and Roman mythology, including male and female heads, faces or figures.

The Hunting style developed as an exotic way to decorate the royal and aristocratic hunting lodges (the chateaux of the Loire Valley). Furniture makers specialized in detailed carvings of winged griffins, lion's heads, and trophies of the hunt, including deer, fish, eels, rabbits, birds, and dogs. Lush foliage in the form of leaves and berries were often carved along edges of buffets and on the backs of chairs, while the bases of tables were often carved to represent the beasts of the hunt: dogs, boars, deer, and foxes. 19th century consumers of the Renaissance Revival style were crazy for the massive, heavily carved and ornate Hunting style and many pieces also included intricate stained glass doors in the upper cabinets.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

This is an electric model 72 of the famous Gibraltar pocket watch wall clock. There were lots of companies duplicating the effort with cheap and plastic substitutions, but this beautiful piece was an exception and was made by the Gibraltar Clock Company.

It is made of solid brass plated metal and the large front crystal is heavy GLASS. The back of this clock is brass. The chain is also brass plated. The watch crown where the chain comes out of is also metal, not plastic.

This is a rare clock. This specimen is actually the first one I have seen with the Gibraltar name.

The surface condition is good with some wear spots and tarnish marks but still in exceptional condition for a clock nearly 50 years old.

Everything is working properly on this clock as described and it is keeping accurate time. It is quite impressive to hang on a rec room wall as you can read the time from a good distance away. It would also be good for a business store. A real piece of nostalgia for sure.

This clock measures about 17 inches tall by 13.5 inches wide (across) and 2 inches deep.  This lovely ring is all about the stone. Measuring a size 7.25 and marked sterling, the smoky quartz stone is a solid .75 x .50. It's a lovely color, picking up tones from brownish-gray to a touch of gold, depending upon lighting and surrounding colors.

Displayed in a solid sterling setting, this ring definitely makes a statement. I've had it for many years but it just wasn't getting much wear, so it's time for a new owner. Please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Thanks for looking!  The handwritten tag on the bottom of this unusual fellow reads, "Charlie Chaplin". I purchased it at an estate sale in rural GA, and although I've looked, I've yet to find a reference to indicate if this is or is not Mr. Chaplin. This piece is marked as Made in Japan. Whoever he is meant to represent, he's a real character!

Mouth open in a laugh, with bushy brows and a bee on his hat, Charlie stands about 7.25 inches tall with his hat. He's in excellent condition with only the slight crazing to be expected with age.

A humorous collectible for any collector!

Disney Mickey Mouse Ornament from Energizer for Walt Disney, mint in the box. It is marked mouth blown, hand crafted, made in China of European Style Glass. The colors are wonderful and it has Mickey holding a candy cane. It does not appear to have ever been removed from the box. A real cute ornament.  These cool cats know how to jam! Check out the detail on this amazing jar. Musical kitties are playing on every side of this cute jar, all below the bright yellow moon on top. Decorated in primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, along with vintage black and white, this cookie jar swings!

It's no small cookie, either. With the lid, the jar stands 11.5" high. The abstract shape adds to the uniqueness of this piece. It has never been used and still has the original label - Juleez - Handpainted. There is a tiny white spot where either the red paint didn't adhere or it was grazed. It measures less than 1 mm and could easily be touched up with a red marker or paint, but I wanted to leave it as it was found. It is on the picture of the lid and barely shows. Any other white areas are from the flash only.

This wonderful cookie jar is really different - not your usual find at all.

 CERAMIC

The word ceramic originates from the ancient Greek word keramikos, meaning potter's clay. The practice of making ceramics has been in existence for nearly 30,000 years. Clay, the primary ingredient for any ceramic, is primarily made of aluminum silicate, which is a malleable soil from crumbling rocks. Ceramics can be grouped according to the type of clay used, the temperature at which the clay is fired, and the duration of the firing.

Transferware TRANSFERWARE

Transfer printing was developed in England during the 1750s as part of the Industrial Revolution as a way to speed up the mass production process, and thereby lower the price of the goods. An image is first engraved on a copper plate, which is then inked and stamped on a piece of paper or fabric. The paper or fabric is then laid on the unglazed piece after its initial firing, much like applying a decal. The object is then glazed and fired, which permanently transfers the image to the ceramic. The manufacturer Wedgwood is generally credited with the widespread popularity of this decoration process. Flow Blue, Staffordshire, Blue Willow and some Delftware are created by use of the transfer printing process.

'Very good condition' would not include chips or cracks in any glass or ceramic item, but could include very minor fleabite chips to the edges of a marble item.

 Boch Keramis / Boch Freres / Royal Boch (1841 - 1998)

Victor and Eugene Boch founded Boch Freres Keramis in La Louviere, Belgium in 1841. From the end of the 19th century until 1920, Boch Keramis produced beautiful hand-painted tin-glazed blue & white and polychrome Delftware. The hand-painted mark from this period features a backwards k overlapping a large B.

Boch Keramis stopped production of Delftware in 1920, although a few transfer printed designs continued to be made using a printed Boch mark that features the words Made in Belgium Boch Fes La Louviere Fabrication Belge inside a circle superimposed over stylized leaves. Boch assumed production of Delftware again in 1969 when the company purchased the defunct Royal Sphinx. From 1969 until 1979, Boch produced blue & white Delftware for Royal Sphinx and used a printed mark that featured a circle with the words Made for Royal Sphinx by Boch inside the circle and with the Sphinx Delfts underneath. A mass of leaves and flowers surround the circle and Delfts. In 1973, the Boch name changed to Boch Limited and the company struggled financially through the 1980s. In 1985, the name changed again to the Manufacture Royale Boch, which featured a new printed mark similar to that used for Royal Sphinx, but instead showed MLR in the middle of the circle. The company changed hands again in 1989 and was renamed Royal Boch, however the production of Delftware ended in 1998.

DELFTWARE

The European craze for blue and white Chinese export porcelain in the 17th century lead to the development of the Dutch East India Company, which imported millions of pieces of Chinese porcelain as well as other Chinese wares. In 1620, the death of Wan-Li (Ming Dynasty) interrupted the flow of goods to Europe. Dutch potters from the city of Delft quickly filled the gap in the market with their own production of blue and white ceramics that duplicated the look of Chinese export porcelain by using the tin-glazing technique learned from the Italians. The Delft potters were the first northerners to imitate the tin-glazed earthenware pottery of Italian majolica, or faience. Production of Delftware proliferated and by 1700 there were more than 30 factories in production of high-quality pieces in the city of Delft.

Delftware drew on Chinese designs for inspiration, but also developed European patterns. Decorative plates were made in abundance and featured native Dutch scenes with windmills and fishing boats, hunting scenes, landscapes, seascapes, and scenes of people in daily life. When Chinese exports re-entered the European market by 1685, they came back in color, especially in greens and pinks. This sparked the production of Polychrome Delft, which refers to the use of colors other than blue and white. Besides the popular cobalt blue on a white background, Delft potters had a full color range that consisted of yellow, orange, brown, green, purple, dark red, and black.

Despite the huge success of Delftware manufacturers, the market for Delftware eroded through the 18th century until eventually only one factory in Delft remained in existence. Joost Thooft bought the last remaining Delftware factory, De Porceleyne Fles, in 1876. Since that time, over one hundred potteries have come back into existence producing what is known as modern Delftware, which no longer uses the tin glazing method of majolica.

In the period from 1876 to 1940, many high-quality, beautiful pieces of Delftware were produced. The transfer printing process was also brought back at this time. After World War II, tourism began to play a larger role in the Dutch economy. More Delftware companies opened in the 1950s to 1970s, specializing in pieces made for the tourist trade. Delftware has been produced in Holland, Belgium, Germany, England, Japan, and the US, and is still in production today.

Plate  Here is an awesome vintage colorful tablecloth. On each corner is a beautiful Mexican Dancer. On the inside border are more beautiful women dancing. Also men with hats and cactus. On the outside border are fruit and Mexican men wearing sombreros with guitars and violins. Measures 48 x48. Great color and detail. Minor corner and edge wear with one repaired hole and 1 tiny hole. Please see my other vintage tablecloths.  This adorable child's tea pot stands only 3.5 inches high, without the lid. To the top of the lid it measures approximately 4.5 inches. The colors are a rusty-red, black, gold, and lovely pure white. There are no maker marks on the teapot, nor are there chips or cracks on the pot or lid. Some of the gold decoration is a bit worn on the sides, handle and spout, but that on the front of the pot is still nice and bright. The paint on the lid isn't quite as 'shiny' as that on the teapot. I would guess that this teapot dates from the latter part of the 19th century or the early part of the 20th century. Very charming and in excellent condition.

Cut out

One of Georges best albums, and a must for any Harrison or Beatles collector.

Somewhere in England had a troubled birth, for when Harrison originally submitted it for release in November 1980, Warner Bros. rejected it, claiming that four songs - "Flying Hour," "Lay His Head," "Sat Singing," and "Tears of the World" (once available on the bootleg "Ohnothimagen") - were not worthy of being issued. Harrison was forced to go back into the studio to cut four new tunes, delivering a bitterly barbed thrust at his record label in "Blood from a Clone" (which they did release) and a tune originally meant for Ringo Starr but rewritten as a remembrance after John Lennon's assassination ("All Those Years Ago"), as well as "Teardrops" and "That Which I Have Lost." As a result, the most compelling issue of this album is the contest of wills between the artist and the suits. Now how do the four deleted tunes stack up against the ones that replaced them? The four missing tunes are of generally even quality, even similar in sound, although "Tears of the World" is a strident attack against corporate and political masters that probably unnerved the executives the most. The bouncy "All Those Years Ago" is a definite gain, being the most heartfelt song on the record as well as a de facto Beatles reunion (Starr plays drums and Paul and Linda McCartney overdubbed backing vocals), and it was justly rewarded with a number two showing on the singles charts.

Side 2

6."Teardrops" – 4:07 7."That Which I Have Lost" – 3:47 8."Writing's on the Wall" – 3:59 9."Hong Kong Blues" (Carmichael) – 2:55 10."Save the World" – 4:54 the track's end features a short excerpt from "Crying", originally released on Harrison's 1968 debut album Wonderwall Music  Who Are You is the eighth studio album by English rock band The Who. It was released on 18 August 1978, through Polydor Records in the United Kingdom and MCA Records in the United States. It peaked at number 2 on the U.S. charts and number 6 on the U.K. charts.[1] It is The Who's last album with Keith Moon as the drummer; Moon died approximately three weeks after the release of this album.

This is a very realistic Bloodhound dog. He has really good detail and is in a matte finish. He has very sad black and white eyes and still has his Japan sticker on the bottom. He has no damage and is about 1 1/2" tall.
